I feel that providing excellence in patient care goes far beyond knowledge of an illness or a disease process. It is much more than only celebrating a person’s successes-it is being present, caring and supportive through the lowest of their lows. You have to know the person behind the problem and really hear what they are saying. Empathy, kindness, respect and understanding are critical qualities that a provider needs to cultivate and incorporate into all aspects of patient care. This is the only way to have a successful healthcare partnership.
